Amp

measurement

An amp (A), short for ampere, is the unit of electrical current — the rate at which electrons flow through a conductor. Named after André-Marie Ampère, a French physicist. One amp equals one coulomb of charge passing a point per second. A phone charger draws about 1–2A, while a household circuit is typically rated for 15 or 20A.
