Arc Flash

An arc flash is a sudden, explosive release of energy caused by an electrical fault where current flows through the air between conductors. Arc flash temperatures can exceed 35,000°F — hotter than the surface of the sun — and can cause severe burns, blindness, and hearing loss. The pressure blast from an arc flash can also throw people across a room. Arc flash is primarily a hazard in industrial and commercial electrical settings.
