GFCI

safety

A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is a protective device that monitors the current flowing through a circuit and quickly shuts off power when it detects an imbalance — meaning current is leaking to ground, possibly through a person. GFCIs can react in as little as 1/40th of a second, fast enough to prevent serious injury. They are required by electrical code in wet areas like bathrooms, kitchens, garages, and outdoor outlets.
