An LED (Light Emitting Diode) is a special type of diode that emits light when current flows through it in the forward direction. LEDs are highly energy-efficient and come in many colors, determined by the semiconductor material used. They require a current-limiting resistor to prevent damage from excessive current. LEDs are used in indicator lights, displays, general lighting, and fiber-optic communications.
