Overload

An overload occurs when a circuit draws more current than its wiring or protective devices are rated for. Overloads cause wires to overheat, potentially damaging insulation and creating fire hazards. Fuses and circuit breakers protect against overloads by interrupting the circuit when current exceeds safe levels.
