Wire gauge (AWG — American Wire Gauge) indicates the diameter and current-carrying capacity of electrical conductors. Smaller gauge numbers mean thicker wire with higher ampacity. Common residential sizes include 14 AWG (15A circuits), 12 AWG (20A circuits), and 10 AWG (30A circuits).
