Stage 0: Safety Foundations
Safety is the most important foundation in your electrical education. Before you learn about voltage, current, circuits, or any hands-on skills, you need to understand how electricity can hurt you and how to protect yourself. This isn’t optional material — it’s the bedrock everything else is built on.
In this stage, you’ll learn why electricity is uniquely dangerous (hint: it’s invisible), how electrical shock and arc flash injuries actually happen, and the specific voltage and current thresholds that separate “harmless” from “life-threatening.” You’ll build a healthy respect for electricity without developing an irrational fear of it.
You’ll also master the fundamental safety rules that professional electricians follow every single day — from lockout/tagout procedures to proper use of insulated tools and personal protective equipment. Finally, you’ll learn to recognize the boundary between safe DIY tasks and work that requires a licensed professional, including when permits and inspections are needed.
